PSU Compatability

Go to solution Solved by Ryan Leech,

But a 6350'd be fine though?

The 6350 would be just fine. The 6100 will perform about the same as a 6350 downclocked to 2.8GHz, so it's best just to get the 6350 or even the 6300 if you're strapped for cash.

I have an ((z600mxsp:http://tinyurl.com/kkf4vrd (link to the PSU)) PSU, and I want to know if it'll work with the system I'm planning.

CPU:AMD FX 6100 (or 6350 if the 6100 will be too much of a "bottleneck")

RAM:2x4GB ddr3

GPU:AMD r9 290

STORAGE:500gb WD Blue 7200RpM HDD;Crucial m500120gb SSD

MOTHERBOARD:Gigabyte AMD GA-970A-DS3P AM3+ Motherboard

COOLING: 2x 120mm, and 2x 140mm Corsair AF fans

So, will the rig draw too much power? Also, and compatibility issues? I also might add an LED strip in the future.

First, I would say go with the FX 6350 or higher. The FX 6100 would definitely be a bottleneck when it's in the same home as an R9 290.

Second, though 600W is enough and it would run your R9 290, I would go with a slightly better PSU. Maybe a Corsair CX700M or a SeaSonic around the same wattage or better, in case of future Crossfire potential.

That particular PSU doesn't seem to have the best reviews, nor is it popular or anything.

Any advice on a better card to use with the 6100?

Just get a better cpu. The 6100 will bottleneck that 290 pretty hard.

Why don't you just get one of the ones below? They are going to be better, and more importantly not bottleneck your system. The 8320 is only $20 more.. Or go all out and get the 8350 Black Edition for only $60 more - still well worth the price tag when your build consists of an R9 290.

FX-8320 $159

FX-8350 $199
