So I'm pretty much just trying to figure out what's going wrong with this build. It should be noted that I built this pc in early 2020, originally had a 2060S for the GPU and 16gb of 3600mhz ram, and the CPU has always run extremely hot, idling between 60-70c and with notable load for prolonged periods of time up to 95c. I have a new AIO coming.

I recently bought this GPU and RAM from a friend who is upgrading their build. The ram is brand new and the GPU is about a year old. I understand that with the monitor being only 100hz I will only be able to see 100FPS but what I'm seeing for FPS in games doesn't really seem comparable to the stats I've found online or what my friend who had this same build, except the motherboard was different and he had 32gb of ram, says he was getting.

In the new COD:MW2 on Ultra low settings I get between 90-140fps. On ultra high settings I get 70-90FPS. In game my GPU Utilization is about 50-70% and my CPU usage is about 5-10%. When I installed the GPU and RAM I cleared the CMOS on the motherboard. I turned on the XMP profile and game boost in the bios settings. I updated outdated PCIE drivers and my graphics drivers. Every driver on my pc is up to date. I updated the bios. After doing all these updates my FPS actually got worse. Before updates I was seeing around 180FPS on medium settings and thought maybe an outdated driver was holding the GPU back but that doesn't seem to be the case. Also before i updated everything, my CPU usage was really high(50-60%) and after the updates significantly less and way more stable on temps but lower FPS.

I have noticed that my RAM usage is pretty high for no reason. I cant even find what is using my RAM but it idles at 30% usage with maybe 20 processes using more than 100mb and the top 5 of those using 4.6gb and the other like 40 processes using barely over 10mb. My Ram usage stays at about 20gb/64gb. I have Userbenchmarked this pc multiple times. UB says CPU is performing as expected, GPU is below potential but still scores 189%. Drives are all above expectations. For RAM it says to enable an XMP  dual+ profile(it is on and confirmed dual channel through cpu z) and that the ram is performing way below expectations. The ram MC speed is 30.7 gb/s, single core: 25.2 gb/s and latency 83.6ns. With one ram stick installed it scores almost exactly half of those numbers and with a latency of 260ns. I had only planned on buying one 32gb from my friend but after seeing the poor performance I thought maybe I needed both DIMM slots filled so I bought the other one. Is this RAM really what's holding me back in this build?

I planned on buying a new monitor soon but there would be no point as this thing barely pushes 100fps on anything higher than low settings on most games. My friend thinks its my motherboard because that was the only difference between our builds and he got significantly better performance, but I feel like its this RAM. Do I actually have problems or is this normal performance for this build?

that sounds like a temperature problem, do you have any airflow?

how are your fan configuration? more in than out? how many fans? did you put your pc in an closed space?

how hot is your pc running while gaming? how hot is it in idle?

the more ram there is  the more is used. but I wouldn't worry about that.

I believe in a temperature problem that is caused by no airflow.

I'm honestly not sure on the GPU part but when I click lookup on GPU-Z it gives me this: PNY XLR8 RTX 3080 REVEL EPIC-X Triple Fan

For airflow I have 3 fans in the front, 1 in back, and 2 on top for the cooler radiator, i cant remember the directions i installed them in. It probably doesn't matter fan wise right now as i'm running the case with the glass off because of temp problems. On two occasions I was playing Squad last summer and my computer just randomly shutoff and when I booted it back up the CPU temp was 100c so I figured it was crashing from the CPU temp and removed the glass and it hasn't happened again. Those crashes also occured with my old 2060s and RAM. This CPU has run hot since I built it and ive never understood why. Ive repasted the aio multiple times using different paste and it doesnt change a thing. Its sitting on my hardwood floor about 6 inches from the closest wall with nothing near it besides that one wall on the back side. in game with poor fps on COD it stays at about 73-75c. The pump RPM is 2700 and the liquid is 38c.

AIO could dry out. it means there is not enough water to cool your system. something else that cold be is AIR in the Pump or in the CPU block.

there is a video about it how to install it the right way.

I am not a pro if it comes to AIO.

what I would do is buy a new CPU Cooler where I could send it back.

install it check everything.

if the fps problem is gone, CPU cooler

something we should check is if your RAM is in Dual mode
get yourself CPU-Z, you can download it for free

image.png.76d6578239675c8d636acd1c72ace0d1.png

what we are looking for is Channel# 2x64-bit

DRAM Frequency is 3600/2 = 1800 MHZ

mine is a little bit lower but I do not worry about that.

well 95 Degrees for a CPU, is hot too hot.

Yes I did mention the ram is in dual mode confirmed by cpu-z. I do have a new AIO on the way already so im seriously hoping thats it but it doesnt seem to run into the throttle temps until way after im having problems. I just ran squad for 30 mins CPU got up to 81c. I messed around with my graphics a little and with DX12 on at Low and Medium graphics settings im getting 70-100fps, 5-15% Cpu usage and 50-70% GPU usage. On high and epic settings 20-40FPS, 100% GPU usage, 5-15% CPU usage. Both CPU and GPU around 70c during those tests. GPU seemed to stay the same temp no matter what I did and CPU only started getting into that 80s after half an hour. With DX11 on, Low and medium settings usage stayed about the same temps stayed the same but was getting 90-120FPS. In medium and high 50-60fps but usage on the GPU was about 60-80% and temps stayed about the same.

Its pretty clear its the CPU's "cooling" caps that are holding back the system. My guess you are just unlucky and got a "lemon" interms of the AIO I mean.

I love PC building and gaming.

ok, after you installed and tested it, come back and tell us if it is still a problem or it is solved.
