After nearly 20 years of building computers I have finally started the process of rack mounting everything.  I bought a 16U rack and have decided to put my PC into a 4U case and my FreeNas box into a 3U case.  Is there anything I should know before I actually start to make the transition?  Anyone have a good recommendation about a rack mount UPS?  I also am in the market for a 1U network switch which has ports on the back and a blank face on the front, but that seems impossible.

It must be true, I read it on the internet...

You can't go wrong with Eaton or APC. (You'll just pay dearly for it unless you buy used.) New batteries cost $ouch, but they only cost $ouch if you rebuild the cartridges with new lead-acid batteries yourself. I've done this on more than a few occasions.

If you've got a 4-post rack, install the rear posts a few inches away from the edge and mount the switch to the back.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.
