Im not sure where to go with this, but in the video about valves prototype steam console they talked about not having a copy of SteamOS. If desired i have a copy of SteamOS installer from 2016

of course! heres a screenshot of the extracted contents if that helps. its from 2016 when i was tinkering with a multiboot setup that failed out.

I dont remember the exact download but i believe i either got it from a windows10 customs something or other, or from steam. at that time i as using both sources for lots of things. but at the time it did install and work.

How did you retrieve this ISO?

the file i have is a .zip it isnt an .iso sadly i dont remember what process it was to make it bootable, if i remember correctly Yumi just handled it for my flashdrive

I see. What is setting me off a little is the .EXE setups and the other Windows related stuff.

from what i can see in the files is that its a multi thing, has the ability to install over windows or as a bootable linux distro? it has the debian files in it. im not very fluent in Linux anymore and im sure my phrasing is wrong for the first bit. im not sure ill have to tinker with it on a spare machine

Edit: To me it looks legit, just a debian based distro, but the exe files are a bit odd.

i believe thats because there is alot of different options on the disk, so some stuff is meant to go with windows and other stuff is meant for the debian system, i will be leaving it up hopefully if someone needs it i can get them a copy

I searched a little and it appears that Debian has an option to begin an install inside Windows! That explains the .EXE files.

Check StackOverflow... The newer versions of SteamOS are based on Arch and KDEPlasma. This seems to be SteamOS 2.0 which is based on Debian and GNOME.

Thank you, that does explain things nicely, i wonder if it could run on the steam console prototype that they did a video on a few days ago?

Maybe. It seems to be from the same time period if I remember right.

seeing the alienware steam machine at walmart is what drove me to download it to try, so it should be in that time frame.

That’s around 2014-2016. This should be able to run on the machine featured on LTT.

Well if they would like another copy of SteamOS to try im happy to get it too them. I just have no idea how to go about making them aware is all.  Hell id be happy to let them take a look through my tech folder, i have all kinds of random tools and things from late 2000's to today.
