Problems Shutting Down

When I shut down my computer, the monitor turns off, but my system is still running, as if nothing happened. Does anyone know what could cause this?

What operating system are you using?

If are using windows 8, try performing a full shutdown by going into cmd and typing this in to perform an immediate full shutdown: shutdown /s /full /t 0

Did you try to wait a bit longer to see if it shuts down?

yeah, I've tried that. The system still runs 30+ minutes after the monitor is off when shutting down
