are drivers necery annd do they make porfanmance worse

Sometimes drivers are absolutely necessary to make things work.  I had to update my WIFI driver and Bluetooth driver on my motherboard to make them work.  Drivers can increase performance slightly but the main thing is that they keep things up to date, make certain things work and increase system stability.

Every single piece of computer hardware/peripheral uses a driver to let the operating system talk to it.

Windows, for around a decade now, installs a lot of drivers automatically, and updates them too! Back in the Windows 9x/XP era, you would usually not be able to connect to a network without installing the network drivers manually, not have any audio until you did.

Some of the Drivers that Windows installs automatically are so basic that they are not good enough for all the features of the device to work - very often, for example, the Drivers for the Graphics card are only capable of running a game properly when you install them yourself from the official manufacturer.

Drivers are what allows your computer's operating system to understand what different hardware devices are and how they're supposed to be used to accomplish different kinds of work. Without drivers, those devices can't function, or at least can't do so beyond as very basic level. As @whispous says, basically every single piece of hardware in your computer has a driver. Since most of them are installed and managed automatically now, we rarely think about them. The big exception for gamers is drivers for the graphics card, which get updated on a fairly regular basis in an effort to improve performance and optimize for new games.

It's true that occasionally a problem with a new driver release makes a device malfunction or suffer performance drops until the issue is fixed by another release, but on the whole I have no idea why you would think they make performance worse. A little critical thinking is in order. You've heard people talk about drivers and don't know what they are: why would people bother with them if they're only harmful?

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

I understand that, and I and others are happy to give you a more detailed explanation, but I'm saying that if you apply a little bit of logic there are some fundamental things you can figure out on your own.
