Do you mean a used one or a new one? Would you have a suggestion build?

If you find good deal on case & cooler you could take it or buy new. And check shipping and seller ratings. No storage You can use the Nvmes you have

Budget (including currency): 750€

Country: Netherlands

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming, mostly games released before 2020; graphic design, I am going to start studying it in the new year

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): currently have an old laptop with an 980m, got all peripherals i need,

I found an offer on an used alienware, it has the following specs:

Intel i9-9900K with AIO cooler
Nvidia RTX 2080 OC 8GB DDR6
32 GB DDR4 2666Mhz
M.2-PCIe-SSD, 256 GB
2TB 3.5 inch 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
850W EPA Bronze
Killer 1535 (802.11ac, 2x2, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1)
Windows 10 Home (64 Bit)

He says it has never been overclocked.

He is offering it for 750 euros, I had a difficult time checking the price on pcpartpicker since a lot of the old gear has some really funky prices on there.

I still have 2 spare nvme m.2 drives so storage won't be a problem

My questions are:

Is this a good price for what I would be getting?

Will the 2080 hold up for 5 more years of gaming? The 980m I've had has been holding up super well, able to play a lot of newer games as well on lower settings.

Is there a way to check if the cpu has ever been overclocked? And how bad would it be if it has been?

Thanks in advance!

alienware

From what I have seen/read/watched on YT, these Alienware system suffer pretty badly from terrible airflow and therefore, thermal throttling. You'll probably wish to investigate in improving cooling/airflow and especially the VRMs (if I remember right, they are basically uncooled).

As to the GPU lasting 5 years, that really depends on your gaming tastes, that's going to be a trick to accurately predict.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

Its an Not so good price for what you are getting You could build a better PC for the prize. There is no way to tell The system is ever overclocked and overclocking Isn't going to hurt anything The only way to be certain will be getting F series CPU. 2080 OC is a factory overclocked GPU . 2080 Will be OK for 1080P and prob 1440P if you are ok with 960M performance today. Wait Its an Alienware so not really worth it it has Very bad airflow and everything is proprietary except the cpu ram and gpu. There is no upgrade path. The specs is OK but the case has issue and you cant reuse it in another case due to everything being proprietary BS. You could build a better overall PC for the budget

its a good price for an alienware as they do sell on for a high price, yes the airflow is not great in those cases, but the cpu is watercooled so thats a plus, I have had several r9/r10 go through my hands and yes they run at the higher end temps and therefore can be noisy, but for that price seems ok

Thank you for the information! I had no idea that relative new hardware could be that cheap when building a full system!

If you have that budget try getting a 6800xt or 3080 used it will be better but yeah you can build a pretty capable rig under 1000 bucks.
