Budget (including currency): 3500 cad

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly Games in 4k- Total War Warhammer 3, Star Citizen

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc.):

  • I'm upgrading from the MSI GE73 VR Laptop (gtx 1070, i7 7th gen) so pretty much a new build. I also have an old computer from 2011 that has windows 10 on it and I plan to cannibalize the old hard drives so I don't need to buy windows and extra storage (still getting a new one for the install)
  • I currently just got the AORUS 43Vu 4k (165 Hz variable) monitor and plan to use this for the new build
  • I'm thinking to use the Pop air for DVD drive bay so that I can install old games to show them to my little one as she grows up
  • I've started with this at PC Partpicker (https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/nB4zVw
  • I'm thinking of waiting to buy for when the 7800x3D cpu comes out (hence not selected above), partly thinking maybe down the line to only upgrade the graphics card [open to suggestions]
  • I'm not sure of the cooling to invest in tbh (CPU cooler, case fans...)

I've handled Pc components in the past, fairly long ago, but I don't think I'll have too much trouble

There is Two different ram kits is it intentional (If yes Change it to a single 32X2 6000Kit) .

Yes For gaming waiting and getting the X3D chips is a good idea The 7900X3D and 7950X3D will launch end of this month

Windows Key is Linked to the motherboard so swapping drives wont give you access to that Key.

Cooling, I think you should wait for the reviews of Your CPU choice

Ah my bad. I meant to specify that I wasn't sure of the ram, it was a fair bit of uptick in price and I wasn't sure if it was warranted for performance (I saved over time for the budget but I like keeping money lol)

6000 Mhz is the Sweet spot for Ryzen 7000 currently So get that Gskill one and that also have a lower cas latency. I would wait for the reviews for the X3D chips.

If you want to save a little, micro center has a RX 6950 xt for 700 USD and 650 USD if purchased with any cpu - not completely sure if it is on sale in Canada though

microcentre doesn't exist in canada or ship to canada unfortunately, and after duties and taxes it would be over 1100 cad, so not much different then the $1400 - 7900 xt
