Wanting a Home Server

Hey, so I am looking to purchase a refurbished server online. What kind of server should I be looking for if I want to host a 24/7 modded Minecraft server for my friends, and also use for my home theater and to store important pictures?

Anything with enough cores and RAM will do - Including tower PCs.

6 cores and 16GB of RAM should be enough (probably overkill).

depending on just how modded, you might want to stick with fairly recent hardware, because modded minecraft servers REALLY like their single core performance.

 

other than that... usual suggestion: find a second hand office computer on the cheap and you're 90% of the way there.
