Gpu Smoking

Blaze_248

I have tested my pc outside of the case, but when every thing was inside the case I went into the bios with the windows flash drive in, then the gpu started smoking. I unplugged it immediately but I do not know what to do now.

Which GPU? As a first step, I would examine it for obvious visible damage. If it's a new GPU, probably try to RMA it.

Sounds like the card has a power issue for whatever reason...i'v never had a gpu smoke much! usually a spark/fizz with tiny amount of smoke, always ends up a dead card as its been shorted and blown some component/s on the cards pcb.

It was a XFX 6700xt. The smoke came out of all of the card. I do not have any pictures of it smonking.

Is it a new card or a used one? RMA it if it's new.

I would dismount the GPU and do a visual check and smell on it if it smells smoked.

Check the screws on the backside of the GPU if they have a seal on it or if they where already removed.

If it's a used one maybe somebody has replaced the thermal paste and messed up the thing.

Do you have a CPU with internal GPU for testing without the discrete GPU?
