Faint Horizontal Lines

ImBumi

Heyo,

I'm starting to see faint horizontal lines in my main monitor but not on my 2nd monitor. It's hard to capture with a photo but it's barely noticeable to my other family members but I can see it (probably since I spend a lot of time in my PC). It's most prominent on white-grey backgrounds and barely noticeable on darker backgrounds. I have a Acer XB271HU and I'm only getting the lines on the whole screen when I set it at 144hz refresh rate. When I drop it down to 60hz most of the lines disappear (i can still see a few at the top).

I've tried power cycling my pc with all connections removed and updated my drivers. Is this a bad HDMI Display port cable or is it something worse?

Edit: I've also tried switching ports and flipping the HDMI Display port cable. Either no difference or the display just won't load at all.

Edit 2: I'm using DP cable instead of HDMI.

First try replacing the HDMI cable. Also try displayport as well if possible.

I'll check if I have a spare HDMI cable. I'm also using the monitor as my speakers (comes built-in) and I don't think the display port carries audio (not sure on this)? I'm trying to see other options before going out to buy a new HDMI cable (relatively expensive in my country).

Displayport does carry audio. I would recommend displayport over HDMI as its generally more reliable, at least in my experience.

Correction: It seems I just can't tell between the two since I just checked again and I'm apparently already using a DP cable. Found a spare HDMI but it won't display anything. I can't remember if this is a faulty cable but it does look like one of my HDMI ports are busted since my 2nd monitor also won't display anything when I connect it to the port.

All in all, I'm hoping that it might just be a DP cable issue. I'll check for DP cable prices in my area and try to get a new one. For now, I'll just drop down to 60hz to remove most of the lines. If you have other things I could try, please let me know.

Which GPU? Can be a GPU fault, doesn't need to be the monitor.

Did you go into your monitors settings to change the input to hdmi?

I'm using an Asus RTX2080 - tried turning my 2nd monitor as my main and it doesn't have faint horizontal lines

Will try the HDMI cable again later after my work. But no, when I first tried the spare HDMI, I forgot that I had to change the input on the monitor settings.

Update: Even with 60hz refresh rate, the lines are now showing.

Can you try plugging the monitor into a different source like a laptop or different pc?

You should try to RMA the monitor if that doesnt work. It could just be broken with no fix.

I'll try and find the warranty on this. I think this is going 6-7 years now so I'm not sure if I'm still covered. I expected some issues since it's relatively old but I'm just hoping that it's just the monitor and not the GPU.
