I recently purchased the Tritton 720+ headset and cannot get the software to install properly.  The install goes as far as the "install" process, and then a window pops up saying "USB Device not plugged in.  Please plug in device to continue, or click cancel to abort installation".  I have already tried multiple computer restarts and all USB ports.  Does anyone know what could be going wrong?  The headset still works with default drivers that are automatically downloaded when the device is plugged in, however I can't get the software to install.  Suggestions?

Tried installing them on another computer with the same issue.  Returning and unfortunately looking for something else now...

What's your budget and do you want open or closed headphones?

I have 720+'s. When I used to use them for my pc they worked over USB using C-Media built into the decoder. They had a low volume issue till i ran them with optical to the mobo for amplification.  I Recently got Sennheiser PC 350 SE's as my daily driver.  I still use the cables/box for the Trittion and plug in my 350 SE to my PS4 with it and also use the 350 SE on my pc using a sound card.  I think I had the same issue when I first got them but i just ignored it and it eventually went away.  As long as it picks up that its C-Media your good.

Either.  Just need a decent headset.  I don't want to spend over $150.  Nothing flashy, just one that can produce good sound and has a mic.

So I'm guess the cheaper the better? Pioneer SE-A1000 and either a Zalman clip on, modmic, or blue snowflake/snowball would be the better than any headset.

In device manager the headset is showing up with a yellow triangle signifying there is an issue with it.  The volume is very low even when max.  It tried using them while playing a game and I got a BSOD because of the headphones malfunctioning.

The game volume was also low for me when using only the USB for sound.  You need to plug the Optical cable from the Tritton box to the Optical on the back of your motherboard.  assuming yours has one.  I never got BSODs when using them on my PC.  I did get the Exclamation too but I'm unsure how i fixed it.  I think i ran windows update for that in its properties tab in the device manager and it eventually worked.  by default it shows up as Generic USB Sound if i remember right then after its C-Media.

here is their drivers page for the 720+.

EDIT: Got usb to work standalone, didn't do anything but plug it in. but its low volume.   That driver didn't work for me either. It may be for the PC only version of the 720+.  I have the Console version.

As it was the only semi usefull thread I found on this issue, I thought I might as well share my findings.

I also purchased the 720+ lately, and could not install the drivers, just as Konrath describe in the first post.

Today I contacted the support, and I was really surprised by their answer, which confirm Silent_R493 suggestion.

There are 2 very different 720+ models :

  • The PS3/360/PC version
  • The PC and mobile version

The driver is for the PC only version. The console/PC only has virtual surround through optical, otherwise, it is 2.0.

I'm quite upset as it makes the console version a 5.1 only, as that's the max an optical cable can output. And I don't even have optical on my laptop.

I guess I will have to find a cheap Xonar U3 now.

I confirm there are two different version of the 720 + one is pc/mobile the other one is gaming consoles AND PC compatible but the sound will be low if you use the optical connector on the gaming comptabile version on a pc . if you plug it as a simple headset with mic it will run smoothly but in 2.1. But it's stupid because the gaming console compatbile headset is 50$ more expensive... I didnt know and now for me it sucks...

I uninstalled the crapware from Madcatz and just used a different audio software to control the headset. (Device manager now shows headset as working correctly).  I am now getting great sound and everything works.
