Hello! I've recently build this pc for my brother:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600 (non-x)
  • MOBO: MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI
  • RAM: XPG Gammix D10 2x8GB 3200 cl16 (AX4U32008G16A-DB10)
  • SSAX4U32008G16A-DB10SSD: XPG Gammix S50 Lite 1TB
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT Hellhound
  • PSU: Cooler Master MWE V2 Gold 650w FM

But every time he turns it on, after it being off for more than 4-6 hours or so, it doesn't post. Fans spin and CPU debug LED lights up, but after pressing the reset button on the case, it boots up normally. No crashing, no stuttering or anything.

I googled it, and was told to turn off fast startup in windows, which I did, but to no avail. I also disabled hibernation in regedit.

One day he turned it on, left the room, and came back to a corrupt bios message. I downloaded the latest BIOS and updated it, and it went away. It happened again one day, but after he rebooted it, it went away.

Could this be a RAM issue? PSU issue? Any help would be appreciated.

Because of the corrupt BIOS message, I would be suspicious of the motherboard. You might need to send it in for RMA to have it repaired.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

When I was trying to reset the BIOS settings, it showed me this message again, but pressing the reset button and entering the bios again it didnt show that message

@sql_cs

Could be motherboard issue, but Ryzen and supporting boards are known to be funny about RAM. My 5900X build drove me nuts for a few months with similar issues until I figured out the board or CPU did not like the RAM, which was not QVL'd for that board or two others I'd tested two different kits on that had similar issues. I also had to disable sleep mode to prevent an isolated hiccup or two. They don't seem to like sleep mode either, and I'm told it's not good for the machine anyway.

FWIW, the RAM SKU you listed is NOT on this board's QVL.

Should I try with 1 stick, disabling XMP, adding more voltage or something?

For AMD it's actually DOCP, but you can try disabling it or see if one stick will be more stable. I wouldn't try more voltage or different timings -- didn't make any difference for me. I think you'll probably wind up getting a kit from the above-linked QVL for the board, that's what it took to solve my issues. That and disabling sleep mode. Be aware that the QVL has an option to select 3000-series or 5000-series CPUs or APUs. Be sure you've selected the correct one.

ADDED: But I would see about RMA'ing the board first. It won't cost you anything, and will prove or eliminate that possibility.

Resetting bios to defaults didnt help (Also turning off A-XMP/DOCP). I'm gonna try with only 1 stick of ram, hoping that that solves it, otherwise I might try with new ram

If you get new RAM, be sure to select from the QVL for a 5000-series CPU. Absence from the QVL doesn't guarantee it won't work, but it doesn't guarantee it will either.

I turned off sleep in windows power settings, went to take a shower, and tried booting it, and on the first boot attempt (without restarting) it said system bios corrupted on a black screen, not in the bios like it did earlier, but again restarting fixed it. Is this a problem with the motherboard? I'm not sure if we still have the motherboard box, so I'm not sure if I can still RMA it?

This is why I ALWAYS keep the boxes from any parts I use. I have four builds, and all the boxes from each individual part are in the box for the case to save space. You never know.

However, some manufacturers actually prefer you not ship it to them in the original box for whatever reason, so I don't see this being a problem. You'd have to contact support for the manufacturer (MSI, in this instance) and speak with them regarding this.

They'll walk you through the usual troubleshooting stuff you've already done, and may perhaps help you stumble onto the cause of the problem without an RMA.

However, I can tell you that mine never gave that BIOS Corrupted message, so I'd say you should probably have the motherboard checked out first. If they find nothing wrong with it and you continue to have issues, then you might want to think about RAM.

A box should not be needed for an RMA, if you have the hardware and the receipt it's all you need, a box is just nice to have for the shipping, but you can use any box.

Btw, have you checked the CPU for bent pins? Do you have other parts you could try in the system, like another AM4 CPU?

And be sure to use a proper static bag and pack it properly to prevent damage in transit, of course.
