im looking for a new build as my budget has increased for a gaming pc. im mainly playing arma 3 and dayz. i don't need peripherals :) Australian $ 2500.

i prefer nzxt 820 as a case or cooler master storm stryker white. ill sacrifice looks for performance any day so cheaper cases are alright if needed.

thanks in advance.

p.s sorry for posting so much, im really new to pc's and cant make my mind on what to do for a gaming rig :')

Not perfect but a good start, do you need monitors and an OS? You could also pick a different brand of 780ti and a different storage set up but a 256gb SSD and 2TB hard drive shouldn't give you any problems. The NZXT Phantom 820 isn't available in Australia according to PCPartPicker so I went with the Corsair 450D which will do everything you want it to. There's about $200 left if you do want monitors/OS in that budget but if not, you could go up to a 4770k or have some wiggle room to change the storage around a bit.

If you've posted again then I'm sure that someone has told you that nothing runs Arma well, you either have to lower the settings to get playable frame rates or build the absolute most baller system out there and then lower the settings slightly less to get playable frame rates.

That looks fine. Only advice I'd give now is if you can wait about a month then the Devil's Canyon Haswell refresh CPUs are coming out and you could get the 4690k and the Z97 D3H for around the same price with a bit better stock performance and much better overclocking performance (probably).

i agree with that..you should wait a bit more... long term wise that is a good investment! for waiting a little time!

Details separate people.

People should wait if they can, if their current rig works and does what they want. Be it at lower settings and slower speed then they wish, sure wait.

But if they simply need a system now, then don't wait.

Here is my suggestion if you really need a system now.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Add an other 290 Tri-X later when you need it. AKA when star citizen becomes playable.

You have the budget for 2011, do it.

If you still have some budget left over I would suggest to grab at least 2 NF-F12's (for the kraken) and maybe 2/3 NF-A15. If no budget for that, there are some other good, silent fans for a lot less, but im biased.

NZXT Phantom windowed, Asus Z77 Sabertooth, Intel 2600K, Noctua NH-D14, EVGA 780 Classified, Crucial Ballistic Tactical, Crucial M4 128GB + Samsung 850 EVO, Corsair RM850, Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty Peripherals: Sennheiser HD598, FinalMouse Classic, SteelSeries Qck Heavy, Ducky Shine Zero (MX Brown), AOC G2460PF & Qnix QX2710

Build Log: Phantom - Antique Noctua

i think i agree with you because for that much of a high end 6 core cpu, it's not gonna outdate too soon.

i was reffering to waiting if he was going for a k-series high end like 4770k or an i5k series. compared to that that little "refresh" is gonna give about 5-10%perfomance difference + tad bit better power consumption depending on the sample you get from retail outlets.
