Hey, I am beginning a new build with some very basic ideas in mind based on the computer's intended use. The intended use for the new computer will be gaming and productivity; I am a software developer.

For gaming, I really want to upgrade from 1080p, targeting 1440p/144mhz with the new build.

For productivity, I need to be able to do some decent processing for the programs I work on for clients. I also want to spin up a virtual machine with a Linux distro.

Here is what I am currently running (NOTE: I bought the Dell 4k monitor for work. I love the sharpness of the text it provides compared to the BenQ, but I am more than willing to downgrade from 4k in order to accommodate the aforementioned 1440p target):

Here is a very, very, very basic start for my new build. Literally. It's just RAM, storage, and targeted monitors. I need help deciding on a CPU and graphics card. I do not intend on overclocking. What do you guys think I should be targeting?

Make sure to upgrade your gpu. The pny rtx 3050 is good on a smaller budget, but anything higher than that is also good. You should Get the ryzen 7 5000/7000 or the 9 5000/7000.

I try to be a human, but I cannot, because I have returned to monke.

I don't intend on keeping anything from the old build. That whole PC is going to be given to my son. I just wanted to put it up there for reference of what I'm currently running. 🙂

If you can get a rtx 40 than do it. They are a bit overkill now, but will be good for longer.

Also you do not have a Motherboard in that list. Is that intentional?

It is. I'm not sure what I am looking for yet out of a CPU/GPU, so I wasn't ready to pick out a motherboard. I'm looking for advice on CPU/GPU for the gaming and productivity needs mentioned in the post.

Yeah. Get a am4 motherboard and snake sure you get a am4 cpu

Or am5 if you really want a good, upgradable pc. Am4 currently has more chips though
