Hi guys, I'm wondering if a 3060 is worth the £50-60 extra for 1080p gaming, I have one or two games with ray tracing so I'm not too bothered about all of that. I might upgrade to a 1440p display at some point but got now its just 1080@60.

Thanks!

I would opt for the 3060, one gen newer and more performance than 2060

3050s are more expensive than 3060s in the uk and definitely more than the 2060 for less performance (why i didn't put it in the question)

I just sold my 3060 and I have to say at 1440p it is not like you have a ton of headroom left and you already get about 25-30% more performance than a 2060.

Additionally 6GB is not a whole lot of VRAM anymore.

If you can comfortably stretch to the 3060 do it. Otherwise I would look at an RX 6600 for similar performance with a cheaper price and more VRAM than a 2060.

If you are upgrading to 1440p/144hz down the line, I’d fork out the extra £60 for longevity reasons and the extra performance.

Its about 10-20% faster depending on the game from what I could find. I personally think that thats worth the extra 60 pounds.

3060 is not and never was a good buy, 3060 Ti is usually not much more but performs quite a lot more.  All RTX cards are not bad value.

Since you don't care for RT, RX 6700 XT is usually around the 3060-3060 Ti price, but performs on par with RTX 3070. Much, much better value for the price.

3060ti are like 3/400 and 6700xt are 400 as well. Way too much. This is a semi budget pc. My max is 250

Yep go with the 3060 one. For that price range, you could even check out the used market.

Well, RX 6600 is much better for that price then, slightly slower than RTX 3060, but usually $100-150 cheaper.

Or, RX 6600 XT, slightly faster than RTX 3060, but usually $50-100 cheaper.

Honestly, I would go with the 6600 then. New and with warranty is worth more than lackluster RT-perfromance. If a used GPU dies you are left with a paperweight and that is a possibility you shouldn't ignore.

Also, the 6600 is pretty efficient and supports RSR and FSR in case you need higher performance at higher res.

There's been a random sale at ebuyer and a 6600 is 230 quid. Is this the better option over a 2nd hand 6600xt for pretty much the same (in the uk there's been a random amd price cut on pretty much all of their stuff) I'm also perfectly fine getting 2nd hand stuff because my whole pc is 2nd hand as well as the monitor 😅

Depends. If it is a reputable seller with some sort of warranty, I would get the 6600XT for the extra power. There is a noticeable performance difference in performance, meaning the 6600 is about 14% slower than the 6600XT (according to Hardware Unboxed).

14% isn't nothing and can definitely help.

I thought the price difference would be larger, but at the same price...

I had a similar question when I bout my gpu, I was planning to get a 1660ti at one point but the store had a 5600xt for the same price and turned out the 5600xt is roughly the same performance as a 2060 so it was a no brainer in terms of raw performance

for the OP question I would say the 3060 will be much better than the 2060, the 2060 is the same performance as my card and the 3060 is around 20% more performance or higher depending on the game, alternatively if you shop around a bit sometimes you can get the 6650xt for same or cheaper than the 3060 which beat the 3060 in most cases except raytracing scenarios

Ryzen 5800X3D(Because who doesn't like a phat stack of cache?) GPU - 7700Xt

                                                           X470 Strix f gaming, 32GB Corsair vengeance, WD Blue 500GB NVME-WD Blue2TB HDD, 700watts EVGA Br

~Extra L3 cache is exciting, every time you load up a new game or program you never know what your going to get, will it perform like a 5700x or are we beating the 14900k today? 😅~

Are you talking 3060 8GB or 3060 12GB? For the 12GB model it's a no-brainer just for the extra VRAM. But the 8GB 3060 is something Nvidia snuck out there without sampling to reviewers, and it can take huge hits in performance vs the 3060 12GB.

Are you able to get RX 6600 XT, RX 6650 XT, RX 6700 XT, or RX 6750 XT for similar prices in the UK? In the US you can get RX 6700 XT for a similar price to the RTX 3060 12GB and the 6700 XT mops the floor with the 3060. And RX 6650 XT is way cheaper and outperforms the 3060 12GB too.

in the uk 6700xt are anyway from 350 to 500 so is a no go. 6650xt are about 300/350 6600xt are 200ish if your luckky and dont get a scalped one and the 3060 are about 260-300 so quite a bit of a strech. (all prices are 2nd hand because new in the uk atm is horrific 3060s can go for 500)

That's a tough call. 6600 XT is almost 20% faster at 1440p and today's 1440p performance is tomorrow's 1080p performance. I would take either of those options over a 300 pound 3060 though. Especially if the 300 pound 3060 are the trash 8GB models and not the original 12GB ones.

6600 XT is a no-brainer buy then. It's a little better than the gpu in the PS5, which is a fucking badass gpu for 1440p and 1080p.

yeah. the 6600 (non xt) can be had for 230 if you get new or even 180 2nd hand (more in my price range) but im thinking ill be better of spending more and having it alot longer
