Extra information and explanation on demand,

Device:  Sansa Clip zip

Connected via front usb 3.0 port.

Known: the properties of the sansa clip displayed on the computer show different battery charge%, usually lower.

The properties of the sansaclipzip displayed on the device itself usually display higher batter charge%.

One of my front USB port has a problem: digital connection doesnt work, but it lightens devices and they show as being charged.

Story : I left my sansclip zip to charge on the digital broken usb 3.0 port for a day or 2.

after some time, I put it in the fully working 3.0 USB  and it showed 100% charge on the device and 0% on the computer. [ NOT CLOSE TO USUAL ] very abrnormal.

The device works fine. I moved it on the working 3.0 USB in the meantime.

Risks: Explosive overcharging or discharge battery death.

Clearly a part of the device/and or computer fails and shit might happen. thoughts?

Update: after 5 hours in the working USB, both the computer and device show 100%.

What happened is not clear, I will refrain from using the deffective USB.

I lost my shit when you switched the font.

have you tried charging it using another usb port ?

Sorry I forgot to specify, I moved it to the fully working USB to see the details on the computer (otherwise, I could not)

Now, 5 hours later, the computer also shows 100% charge.

The problem and safety is unknown. The extra conveniance of the 2nd 3.0 front port is important to me.

You mention that in the computer the device showed 0% battery when plug in the USB port that can't transmit data, how do you think the PC checks the level of the battery?  Is not sensing voltages, USB ports have no way to check voltages on devices.

The PC asks the Sansa and then the Sansa tells the PC what is the state of the battery, this is done sending data between the 2 devices. Since the data connection of that port does not work, there is no way that the PC can know what % of battery you have.

Mystery is the source of all true science.
