Problem with powering a GPU

Coltheart

Recently bought an RX 580 2048SP (8GB) and I didn't check if my PSU have the right connector, and alas, I only have 2 free molex and 1 free SATA connectors.

The GPU haven't arrived yet but I'm wondering how to approach this problem.

System Specs:

  • Processor: Intel i3-10100F
  • PSU: 700w Generic(Brand: Orion)
  • GPU: GT-710
  • RAM: 16GB(8x2) 2666MHz
  • Storage: 250GB TeamGroup M.2 and a 7200rpm 1TB HDD

My Generic PSU "says" it's rated for 700w.

Now from my research, the new GPU draws 150w max and thinking my PSU might be capable enough but lacks the connector to do so.

I can convert the 2 molex into a 6pin but I'm afraid I might get a subpar adapters and melt.

Another option is I found another Generic PSU (800w) that has an 8pin(2+2) for the cpu power and a 6pin.

What do you guys think?

If you have a 700w PSU without the cables required I wouldn't trust that PSU.

I would get a decent unit off the forums PSU tier list.

I was thinking the same thing, but I got my eyes on a Corsair CV650, Cooler Master Elite (v3 or v4? cant remember) 600w, and a MSI MAG 650 what do you think? Btw havent checked the tier list but, I'm kinda short right now so.. yeah, those PSUs I mentioned are already available on a store near me..

Yeah replace that that sounds like one that will kill your system

I agree, originally my system was supposedly a premade one but I requested some changes like the Mobo and RAM sticks, my mistake was to replace the psu too. So like my comment above, I'm eyeing some 80+ PSUs, would love to hear suggestions from those 😅

As far as I know the only like "inexpensive"  and manufacture brand that has modular cables and PSU is cosair. But also in general its not a good idea to mix and match cables for PSU's.

I love PC building and gaming.
REMEMBER botttlenecks can happen at all points of a PC part. Make sure you are at equilibrium. For all parts unless you intend to upgrade at a later point. Also QA Tested AAA Games.
