I'm trying to build a new NAS.

Cry0lite

Budget (including currency): $500-700ish USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Proxmox - Debian (Docker - Plex Server, Wire guard), TrueNAS (or something else for sharing files)

My current NAS setup:

Using my old PC: HP Pavilion 550-a14

CPU: AMD A8-6410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics (4cores)

RAM: 8GB DDR3

Main Drive: 2.5 WD 256GB SSD

HDD: Single - Seagate IronWolf 8TB

Currently running Debian 11 on it.

Using Docker for Plex.

Using Webmin for Samba share on local network.

Is this setup good enough cause I’ve been thinking of upgrading it to something like this (https://youtu.be/boKmZKTKXHc)

* This is AMD; I want to maybe go for Intel

What i want to have:

Run everything via Proxmox.

So, it will have Debian OS for Plex Server and Wireguard to have remote access.

TrueNAS for Samba share.

* Do I need to have a GPU for this? For like encoding/transcoding videos for Plex? (I have Plex Pass)

* Should I go with HDD storage or SSD?
* What parts should i change from what linus used or is there a better intel setup that i can utilize?

Thx in advance for the help.
