Do you have a recomendation for a small case?

I know that cooling is very important for this construction, so I need your advice!

Do you think the Torrent Nano would be a better choice ? For now a have a BitFenix Prodigy M, and I don't have a lot of spare space...

Thanks for your help !

Nr200p max will do the trick.

Torrent nano also works but cooler compatibility is still an issue there.

Of a prodidgy m works for size then the nr200p max is perfect.

Or basically any good airflow 280mm radiator compatible case/nhd15 class cooler compatible case.

Budget (including currency): around 4000$, not a constraint

Country:  Swizerland

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Photoshop, Ligntroom, Capture One, DaVinci Resolve, (a little bit of After Effect)

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): upgrading from i7-8700K, GTX1080, 32GB ram

Hi,

After a first workstation in 2018 that I am very happy with (i7-8700K, GTX 1080, 32GB Ram), I feel the limits of my machine and would like to upgrade it.

I would ideally like an ultra compact workstation (small form factor). I already have a parts list planned, but I'm wondering if the cooling is adequate. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gDfNH2

(2.5GbE mandatory as almost 80% of storage is on an external server)

Do you have any suggestions on how to improve this? The case is not more important, although I prefer if it is easy to assemble, but it should be small (and no RGB).

Yeah so a 13900k is BARELY cooled by a 280mm aio in the nr200p max. That is basically the smallest case you can get that has ok enough cooling options to keep the 13900k from going 100c immediatly. A nh12ls isn't even close to enough for a 13700k.

Intel 13th gen isn't really itx friendly past a 13600k.

Any reason for the wd reds? They are kinda slow for the price bracket they are in.

I would give the Thermaltake Tower 100 a look because you can actually fit a high-end air cooler in the thing.

We're all posting Tower 100 builds? Okay heres mine: 5600X, 6800XT, NH-D15S, TT Tower 100 : r/Amd

I'd suggest waiting for the locked Raptor Lake CPU that are rumoured to be announced next week. They are 65W TDP parts which will marginally improve the cooling problems. Consider too a larger SFF case, one that will allow for a higher performance cooler. Current gen CPU performance is highly dependant on CPU cooling efficiency. Inadequate cooling will lead to much lower performance.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

I have no idea when the locked CPU will be available. Usually it's a few weeks after release. It depends a bit on demand. Strong demand generally leads to scarcity.

The Torrent Nano would definitely be better as it can take a full size air cooler.

Do you have any specific cases in mind?

The Lian Li q58 looks very neat, the Cooler Master NR200(p) is a clean design, and the Fractal Design Rigde recently got a lot of praise from Hardware Cannucks.

What you can fit into it is very dependent on the limitations of the specific case. Some can hold big cards or tower coolers, others support ATX psu's, but seldom all of them in the same case.

Edit, I missed your link.

My bad.

I looked up Noctua's compatability chart, they don't have any warnings about using the L12S with the Rigde, and their only note on using it with a 13900k is that you have limited overclocking headroom.

mITX is awesome! I regret nothing (apart from when picking parts or have to do maintainance *cough*cough*)

The l12s has been tested and it can't keep a 13700k cooled at stock.
