Cheers, I’ll have a look over those. I was only looking for “entry level” I’ve only ever used membrane so don’t know any better.

Mostly they’re louder and less mushy and they’re so long lasting you can will them to your grandchildren.  Oh and they usually light up, but you have to mess with the programming on the things if it distracts you (it does me)

Hi all, I’m looking for a new keyboard to replace my dead Logitech G110.

I want to go mechanical, I’d like hotswappable but it’s not a must.

I do want media keys, tenkeyless is the smallest is go, I like my separate F keys.

I’m not fussed about RGB, colours, or wireless.

I’ll be using it for gaming. Is it possible to get a reasonable keyboard for under £50?

thanks

Hot swap is nice.  The advantage is that if a key dies you just replace it and not the whole keyboard.  Repairability. It’s imho the main advantage of a mech keyboard.  That and lifespan. Repairability increases lifespan. It’s not an expensive feature though.    The disadvantage of mech keyboards is they’re loud, and making em quiet is expensive.   I’d personally go with the cheapest mech keyboard with standardized hot swap keys you can find.  If you start worrying about throw distance and “thock” stuff gets real pricey fast. It’s possible to spend $30-$300 on a mech keyboard.  I’m more at the $30 end myself.  MSI, Corsair, and Razor all do low end mechanical keyboards.  I’m fine with $6 rubber dome keyboards myself.  Thing is the low end mechs are cheaper when amortized over time. Rubber dome keyboards aren’t repairable.  A mech keyboard costs what 4 cheap rubber dome keyboards do use it as long as you would 5 rubber dome keyboards and you’re money ahead.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
