Budget (including currency): $1500 USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: General gaming.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I already have the CPU, and my friend threw together a first draft part list linked here: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/GrandSnek/saved/#view=fKQ8Q7.

I have a mouse, but I might need a new one soon, and I will probably need a monitor and keyboard. This is my first time building a computer and I'm moving from a MacBook.

“Permission denied”.  Is the monitor /keyboard/mouse part of the $1500?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Sorry. It should be fixed now. I would prefer it if the keyboard and mouse were a part of the $1500

But not the monitor?

This is a full on 4k system and would want a 4k monitor to make it really go.  Just something to keep in mind.

I’d back off the video card then with 1080p you can get away with a 6600. Also that 2660 memory may be too slow.  I hope that wasn’t the stuff I specced.  I filtered for 3200mhz or faster.  Going below 3000mhz can cause performance problems I understand.    It was that expensive because while it was over fast, it had good cas. 2660 memory will cut 20% of your performance.   My understanding is that the outside max which irritates some people for 1080p is 27”, which is also the minimum for 4k which also irritates some people.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

He already has the CPU 5800X.

The cpu is apparently already purchased so it’s $0

Any cheap mech keyboard with removable keys is imho a better deal than a rubber dome keyboard in the long run if not the short (they go bad quickly.  I’ve been through a mess of em.  All with one bad key.  If I could replace the keys I’d probably still have the first one)

the memory may be cas16, but there are more numbers than the first one and the others on that one are crap.  It’s why its so cheap.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Okila. CPU price put on 0. Put back the 4000D case, upgraded the ram to g.skill 3600 and keyboard razer hunstman.

I would say the money spent on the tomahawk cloud be better used for a better psu and more storage same thing for the ram
pretty sure the huntsman isn't hotswap which the c2 is and i would switch the p3 plus with twice the storage but slightly slower speeds

Lol that cooler popped 10 bucks between one check and the next one.  Let’s go with “the cheapest decent 5 pipe single tower you can find at any given moment, bigger is also ok, but if it’s a 4 pipe it needs to be a really good one.  a b550 motherboard (VRM doesn’t matter because the b550 spec takes care of that.  They will all mostly work) if you go microATX you can use a microATX case, (there used to be a tiny little kolink that was bangin.  Dunno what happened to it.  Maybe a price jump.  I got a core v21 which I like a lot.  It was also cheap) but there won’t be as many pcie slots so if you want wifi an m.2 e key is handy”

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Ok I understand what some of this stuff means, but it’s all pretty surface level.

Is there anything I should know about these builds? And thank you all for the help.

Hmmm… the video card follows the monitor.  If a card is only ever going to be used on a 1080p@60hz monitor buying a gigantic video card is pointless because it will never spin up.  One can choose the video card first but then buying a monitor is needed and it’s very possible to blow the budget because a given video card demands too much monitor.
