Pc randomly reboots after ram upgrade

Lidvikarn

Hi.

I recently upgraded my ram from 2x8 gb 2666 Mhz to 2x16 gb 36gb Mhz I have a amd ryzen 5 3600x prossesor. I know that the prosessor should be able to work with that frequency and the motherboard supports it aswell. My issue is that ever since i installed the new ram sticks, my pc has randomly rebooted at times. When it occurs it happens right after i power on my pc, never after it has been runing for a while. Otherwise the pc runs normaly. I have XMP enabled in bios and have manually decresed the ram frecuency as the pc reboots. I am now down on 3200 Mhz. Can there be a problem with the new ram sticks?

Thanks for any help.

Try loading defaults in the Bios, then test your ram. What could be happening is your 3600x cannot support anything over 3200mhz. XMP or EXPO is an overclock for your ram and if you have a relatively weak processor then you will have a hard time with ram speeds over the AMD specified defaults.

Is it CL16 or CL18 ? If it' 16 you can try loosening it at 18

You can visit the Website of the mainboard manufacturer and check if your modules are in the "compatibility" list.

If they are not in the list it does not mean that they will not work, but if they are in the list the combination is tested by the manufacturer and the problem is most likely in the Bios.

Some Bios Versions increase Memory compatibility, please check if you have the newest BIOS.

I do not know what mainboard you have but her is an example for MSI https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MEG-X570S-ACE-MAX/support#mem

I have a ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING II with bios version 4801. There is a newer bios version that i can update if that would help in this situation.
