racing wheel help

my friend cant use his arm so his mom got him a wheel set ( thrustmaster t80 ) i got it to work on gta5 and other car games but with it pluged in the xbox controller wont work . is there a way to make it all work like drive around with the wheel and pick up the controller for the rest .

It can sometimes depend on the game. In NFS Heat for example, I can only use my controller but in Trackmania, both in TM2020 and in TMNF, I can use my wheel as well as my controller

 

Edit: didn't read the post well enough, sorry. I actually don't know. It should be possible though but for now, ignore my post
