6700xt or 2080 ti for 1080p?

Need more info.  Both are wildly overpowered for 1080p@60 though they might not be for 1080p@240. Need all the standard stuff.  Make and model of major components and the monitor (so stuff can be looked up if needed) also whether you care about ray tracing or not, and what kind of games you play.  Basically everything.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

They seem pretty comparable, so which is cheaper May play a role.  My personal move would be a used 6800, but if you don’t have enough monitor for there to be a big difference they’re both overpowered.  The 6700xt will be cheaper to run.  The PSU needs to be bigger but that’s just because of the transient spikes.

That would be a good reason.  The used market for video cards used to be quite good.  Might be worth looking there.

theres newegg amazon ebay that all i know

Also your local Craigslist if you’re in the US. If in NZ or AU there’s Banggood. I avoid used on Amazon myself.  I didn’t know Newegg did used stuff. If you’re in easy driving range of a microcenter B&M their open box stuff can be good.

Once upon a time that was pretty decent.  I don’t know if it still is.  The way I find the going rate for things is I search on eBay for completed sales.  Completed listings has some value, but sometimes people back out because they got a better deal elsewhere.  3080 is comparable with a 3950xt.  A 6700xt compares to a 3070

Nice.  I paid a bit over $500 for a SWFT that is more or less the same speed but has poorer cooling.  Which I am paying for.  I modded the fans already and it’s enough, but I worry that I’ll have to really give the thing some beans in other games though so I’m looking hard at hybrid AIO. I run that heavily undervolted and power limited with fss @100hz for tiny Tina on 4k and it’s smooth as butter.  The nices thing about the Merc is it’s got a LOT more cooler on it so you won’t have the problems that I did.  Those things are gigantic though.  Almost didn’t fit in my case after I added the bracket.  The thing really works well I’ll give it that, even though it makes the card even longer.

I haven’t seen any coil whine.  The one I got had super loud fans which is the opposite of their rep and I bought it used so they may have just worn out.  The merc is apparently the one to get, but if coil whine is a big deal a whole bunch of Whitney cards will be on eBay and getting one is the wrong plan.  I saw a bunch of 3080tis on eBay that were cheaper than the 6800xts though, which is what I got.  Maybe I just can’t hear coil whine anymore. I’m old.  One of the weird things about my card is the fan header on the card doesn’t have a jack.  Just pins sticking out of the board so I don’t know which way is the right way up.  They are gigantic with the bracket that came with mine. Added another 3/4” to the back of my card which made it difficult to fit in my machine.  Another post mentioned they have a rep for coil whine but I haven’t experienced any that I can hear on my card.  One of the oddities of the bracket is if you remove the shroud the thing gets like 2 inches shorter but a 25mm case fan sits perfectly behind it with the shroud off.  Playing tiny Tina at mostly high with ultimate view range and freq locked at 100fps I was getting really consistent max fps@4k though.  Most powerful card I’ve ever had by a mile. The 3080ti is more powerful though Even though it has less memory. I’m not sure an 8 or even a 10gb card is enough memory but 12 just might be.  They’re also cheaper than xfx SWFT 6800xts atm.
