I've noticed heavy and sudden slow downs whenever downloading large documents like game updates. I don't have a super slow ssd so I'm not certain why whenever I do these downloads my SSD usage becomes 100% and everything from opening a tab on chrome to messaging on Discord freezes and becomes incredibly slow. Any clues as to why it hits my ssd so hard that my pc becomes unusable? R5 5600x,  RTX3060, gigabyte gaming x v2, 16gb 3600mhz ram, crucial bx500 1tb sata ssd.

Given Windows does TRIM and garbage collection (Probertites of your SSD -> Tools tab -> Optimize) automatically, there isn't much to do. You can download Crystal Disk Info or Crucial's SSD software to check the SMART if there are any warning signs.

And I assume your SSD is more than half full? A good practice is kept SSD at most 80% of its capacity.

Its a BX500, meaning no Dram on the SSD. It can be fine during daily use, but the SLC cache can be overwhelmed during sequential writes.

The best option is probably getting a separate/faster SSD for OS.

tbh *if* that bx is the issue,  it'll slow down the pc no matter what (my experience with cheap dramless drives at least)

mx500 is a far better choice and just a few bucks more (and with dram cache) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
