Yes it is compatible. Just make sure you update the BIOS. When I helped you make the list I opted for the Rampage IV Extreme, but the Gigabyte X79-UP4 has much of the same main features for a cheap price and ATX form factor. Also for the RAM, may I recommend these two kits?

GSkill Trident X DDR3-2400 16gb 2x8gb 10-12-12-31 Kit $154.99 + free shipping (as of May 9, 2013)

Team Xtreem LV DDR3-2400 16gb 2x8gb 10-12-12-31 Kit $139.99 + free shipping (as of May 9, 2013)

Also $569.99 for a single GTX 680 4GB seems steep. I'd either wait for GTX 780 or GTX 770 and get that (comes out this month), or Crossfire 7970 3GB which will probably outperform those options.

How about this list, all the same parts except for the RAM and GPU (RAM recommendations are listed above):

If Ivy Bridge taught us anything, current X79 boards won't be compatible with the new processors.

Well if you've been paying any attention to Ivy Bridge-E, you'd know that the Ivy Bridge-E I7-4960X ES worked and benchmarked great on Toppc's (from coolaler.com) MSI X79A-GD45 PLUS X79 based motherboard. Here's a story of it:

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Sandy-Bridge-E-Ivy-Intel-i7,22254.html

Personally I would not upgrade until the 8 core version of it comes out. Do NOT get the 4960X, and wait for the 8 core unlocked LGA2011 CPU. By the way, I updated my previous post.

Wow, that's great, I wasn't expecting that move from Intel. I wonder if there will be a Rampage V series of boards now, there may be no need for them.

The 780 is rumored to come around $600, so I'm assuming if you do get it, you will only get one. I suggest going with the Crossfire 7970 as it will outperform a single 780 as long as drivers are good.
