Hey guys,  im on my summer break from college and started working to build a pc but i've gotta cheap out on some stuff since i can't go baller on pc parts. I bought a b450 plus 2 from asus last year with the hopes of pairing it to a 5600x but i saw recently the launch of the 5500 witch is around 30% cheaper but saw that it only has support for pci 3.0 but not i was wondering... If i buy the 5600x and pair it to a b450 am i gonna be wasting money anyways? i've been looking in asus sites and it seems it wont support pci 4.0 and i really dont wanna fork out more money on another mb, so... Should i go with the 5500 and save some money for a better gpu? try to sell my still brand new b450, get a 5600x anyways and put it on the b450 or what should i do to try to get the most bang for my buck

Try to get a 5600 if you can since the x version of the 5600 doesn't make a difference, but the 5500 is worse in performance than the 12100. Pcie gen 4 only really matter with 6500xt cards and below as most cards don't fully utilize all bandwidth from the 16x slot.
