Hi, today I'm upgrading to a 6950XT + R7 5800X system, and my current PSU is a 700W be quiet! Pure Power 11 80 Plus Gold, and wanted to make sure that it'll be enough?

It's not about the wattage only. Also the topology and the quality is important and in that case a Pure Power 11 is not sufficient because of the ACRF topology of the PSU. With that kind of high-end hardware and a power hog of a 6950XT that can spike up to 600w (depending on the model), you want nothing but a PSU with LLC platform and at least 850w. All listed in Tier A of this.

I'm getting mixed answers... worst case scenario, what happens if my PSU doesn't deliver enough power? Will it damage my components? Is it OK if I try installing my new components with that PSU and see how it goes?

psu will shutdown in the worst case. It does nopt hurt anyone to twest if it works normally ( like running a gpu benchmark while also running a cpu benchmark)

Motherboard tier list. Tier A for overclocking 5950x. Tier B for overclocking 5900x, Tier C for overclocking 5800X. Tier D for overclocking 5600X. Tier F for 4/6 core Cpus at stock. Tier E avoid.

(Also case airflow matter or if you are using Downcraft air cooler)

( You can overclock Tier C just fine, but it can get very loud, that is why it is not recommended for overclocking, same with tier D)
