Hi,

first my setup:

radeon 6900xt

ryzen 5 5600x

psu: corsair sf750

Whenever i start my pc after a few minutes it starts to lag. A bit later i get a blackscreen. then my pc either restarts or i get back to my desktop with this error showing up https://prnt.sc/4sZcXuVqIpwL

I already tried a fresh reinstall of windows. a fresh reinstall with ddu and a different power plan. anyone got any suggestions?

Anything in Event Viewer around the time your system crashes? Filter it by Warning, Critical and Error. Might have something useful pointing to what the problem is.

CPU: Ryzen 5900x | GPU: RTX 3090 FE | MB: MSI X470 Gaming Pro Carbon | RAM: 32gb Ballistix | PSU: Corsair RM750 | Cooler: Sythe Fuma 2 | Case: Phanteks P600s | Storage: 2TB WD Black SN 750 & 1TB Sabrent Rocket | OS: Windows 11 Pro & Linux Mint

under critical i only have this

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

but it only happened 4 times in the last 7 days. and the crashes and freezes happen more often

The errors and warings i'm getting most are DistributedCOM

This is a service related to when an application makes a connection to the internet.

Probabably not related to your crashing but for the sake of trying, head on over to the manufacturer's website of your motherboard and install the chipset and network driver.

As you have reloaded your OS already though and getting the same behaviour it could be related to hardware, unlikely you're installing the same faulty driver.

The 6900XT is also pretty power hungry, you have 2 PCI-E connectors hooked up from seperate cables and not using the splitter on the end ? (Like shown below)

It's very important you get the correct type of cable for your PSU else you risk damaging your PC parts.

Here is a compatability list. You're looking for a Type 4 - PCIe cable from what you listed above as your PSU.

Installed the cable. but the issue is still there. keep getting random blackscreens and freezes

Next thing to move onto is a bios update for your motherboard, there are stability improvements that might be worth giving a try now we're sure the GPU is getting the required power.

Head over to your manufacturers website of your motherboard and download the bios, pop it on a USB stick and run through updating it.

Worked for about a day without crashes. Weirdest thing is, when I am playing a game with heavy gpu load it works without crashing. But once i tab out, watch a video or just do something ob my desktop the crashes occur.

Hopefully we're on the right track if it's at least not crashing in games.

Next thing to try disable MPO (multipane overlay): See if that helps with your alt+tab crashing: Guide here Nvidia also Applies to AMD, seems to be a bug in the drivers for both.

Run MemTestx86 just to be sure no RAM is faulty, it can take a while to run through a cycle.
