Motherboard insert

Go to solution Solved by AlphaQ214,

From my experience, no, both don't have to be populated. One is for primary power the other is supplemental for if the CPU needs extra power headroom for say an Overclock. However, for this board I could be wrong. It should be listed though in the MB manual about those connectors.

Ive been planning to build a new pc for quite a while now.

But i dont really know what psu to go with.

Ive been looking for around 2 hours and came past the cooler master v550 sfx.

But looking at my motherboard (msi pro b660m-a wifi ddr4) it has got 1 8pins cpu insert and another 4pin.

So do i need to fill up both of these?

Because that psu only comes with 1 8pin....

If thats the case and the cooler master psu doesnt work with this board, can you guys recommend me another psu that does go with this board?

The extra 4 pin is only for large power draw, so it isn't needed to work. Do you have a list of parts you plan to buy?

Yeah

I3 12100f

Radeon 6600

1tb nvme ssd

So that extra 4 pin wont be needed right?

One more observation ... seems you chose a SFX power supply, which is a smaller size than regular ATX power supply.

It can still be mounted on a mATX or ATX case but unless you really need the smaller siz, go for regular ATX psu as the fans are larger so they can push more air, and therefore the psu will be more silent on average.
