Hey, I'm looking to buy a new psu since I'm upgrading my gpu, I looked at the website for a local retailer and there are so many options that I just don't know what to choose.
I'll be running a r7 5800x cpu and an rx 6700xt gpu, recommended is 650w but i want to over spec to 750w.

My choices between companies are:

  • Corsair
  • Seasonic "PRIME ULTRA"
  • Seasonic "FOCUS Plus"
  • Asus ROG-STRIX

And they're all varying efficiencies from bronze to titanium.

Is there any company that's considered better than the others? what's the difference between seasonic prime and focus? does it even matter?

Hello,
Seasonic, Corsair & ASUS are all respectable brands and you can´t really go wrong with any of those.
I´ve been building the PCs mostly with corsair PSUs and never had one fail on me.

It really depends on what your price range is.

I personally would either go with a HX750 from corsair or PRIME PX 750, both are 80 plus plat rated.

The Prime TX would be a bit more efficient but also a little bit more expensive.

Not sure if you say the PSU Tier List where folks have done an incredible job of gathering information about PSUs..  For your build, look for something Tier A 750w like you said...

Compared to Prime, Focus and ROG Strix a Corsair HX is by far the better unit. Even RMx is better.

What even is the difference between the prime and the focus though? the only one I can notice is that the warranty is 2 years longer for the Prime one.

When I am not mistaken the prime is the more premium unit, with slightly better parts.

But by no means is the focus a bad power supply.

Up to 750w Prime Gold/Platinum and Focus are exactly the same. You pay a premium for a 2 year extra warranty on the Prime. From 850w and up Prime has a different platform with the known Prime issues.
