Gpu overheating

I decided to clean my gpu and repaste it and also replace the old thermal pads

It's a gigabyte gtx 1070 ti 

I used 1mm thick thermal pads

The problem is now the gpu die is not making proper contact with the heatsink 

It is running at 82c 99% when I play apex legends 

What can I do to fix this

Replace the thermal pads with the correct thickness ones?

I"m not an expert on that, but I'd go with 1/2mm pads (or, if you have the old ones, check their sizes)

What was it running at before? Must be down clocking alot if that isnt normal. 
Obviously you need to get .05 pads if 1mm is too thick. So you took the cooler back off to verify its not making proper contact or can you see it when its together? 
Also pads arent all the same, some more malleable than others. So some being thicker can work all the same as they can be softer.

Thx guys, I ordered the 0.5mm pads,they should be here by next week

I put a little bit of TP on the die, closed the gpu and saw that it didn't really spread a lot

I just installed the new pads, it's running way better

I'm getting 67c max load so far
