I have a Dell Precision Tower 3910 with a 1300W PSU that's dying. Will a 635W D635EF PSU that looks exactly the same with a few missing contacts on the interface work? honestly just using it to rule out the PSU in a troubleshooting effort. Thoughts?

well chances are it's 1300w and has extra contacts for a reason. are you not able to find the same unit for replacement?

Its for a server a client has. The server they have is a 1300w and it only runs AD and a few drives. We have some T3600s laying around with the Same PSU just different wattage and missing pins

idk. If dell has proven anything..... it's that if they could get away with a lower spec psu and less pins , then they would have done so.

I'd just be careful as the only thing we can confirm is the interface they're using is the same. But i wouldn't be surprised if they did what dell usually does and make each unit electrically proprietary.

check the pins on the actual board that are missing on the psu in continuity mode and see if they actually go to something. Or , if you can figure out which pins are the power and ground on the psu then short them so you can check the voltages and see if they are actually the same.
