ND-D14 speed control?

Go to solution Solved by man36,

Already figured it out. I had to enable cpu q fan in bios, so fan xpert2 could control the cpu fans. As always thank you for all the help and orientation.

Hi guys, I just bought one of these massive coolers and it performs just as it should. Something that has been nagging me lately is that the fans are running at 1200 all the time. I know the included noise reduction cables would make them spin at 600 or so; but, if I do that will I have a big difference in temps? Or is it barely noticeable in temps? I recently saw the video Linus posted about the new ND-H15 that has a Y cable for PWM control. But I do not have one; can I buy one and use it? Or it is only compatible with the new heatsink fans?

If I cannot use the Noctua cable; is it recommendable to get a similar cable from another brand??

Thank you!

Make sure the fans are plugged into the CPU fan header, and set them up in the bios.

Also use the noise reduction cable, the difference in temps in only small and is defiantly worth the drop in volume. There is no point in getting a noise reduction cable from a different company, it's just a resistor so they arel all the same, besides why would noctua include it if you can't use it.

hey, yea the original fans are 3 pin which means they cant be PWM controled and will run on full speed.

Some boards have the options to change the fan control to voltage control and will reduce speeds dependending on temps with 3 pin as PWM does. My old Gigabyte board does have the option but my Asrock does not :(

You can use the adapters the temps will be almost the same +3-5°C difference if you aint running some crazy OC. If you need the head room in RPM and your mobo doesnt support voltage control of cpu header, you will need to buy 4pin PWM fans like i did.
