Hi! My first card was an ASUS ROG STRIX 1070 TI. Brand new back in 2017. I have recently bought an MSI Radeon 6800XT, and while it does come with a support bracket (which it will need), how can I help to reduce long-term GPU sag? I want to get the best performance and longevity out of my parts.

It is simple, essentially just extending the PCIE connector with a cable.

The only thing you need to make sure is that your CPU cooler and a vertical mounted GPU could fit together. My Asus TUF RX 6800 XT is so tall, that my cooler and a vertical mounted GPU is touching each other. They do look cooler, but also purely aesthetics.

These are the universal ones, that don't need case compatibility.

Thanks man! Probably going to go vertical this time vs horizontal so as to not tear up my motherboard. These cards are huge

Vertical just impedes the airflow to the intake fans, I've never heard of sag damaging the board unless you actually move your PC around a lot.

Literally all you need to do to avoid sag is wedge something between the third slot and the cooler/shroud.

One of the reasons I like the rotated cases like the Silverstone Raven 02 or the Fortress 02 (my case).  With the card in a rotated (vertical with the cable coming out of the top) sag is not an issue at all.   Personal reason as well, I have it under my desk the the cables coming out of the top makes for a cleaner setup.  I wish more cases came like that.

With the ones I listed, the GPU sits right on the middle of the case, because it doesn't need vertical mounting compatibility on the case. My temps are actually better with vertical mount, not much, maybe around 5C, but my glass side panel is not hot anymore, so that's good.

Its certainly an element of trial and error, as card size and position of the case fans will make a huge difference.  I'd be more keen on vertical if a case has a filtered air intake on the panel itself, but of course that wont look as nice.
