CL16 vs CL17

Go to solution Solved by Pickles von Brine,

As stated above mixing and matching timings can cause problems. A buddy of mine just recently had similar issues. His system wouldn't even boot like@Holmes108stated.

So currently I have a single stick of Kingston Fury CL17 8 GB Beast 3600 MHz and I want to buy another one. However the one I currently have is sold out. I can buy a Kingston Fury Renegade stick of ram which is also 8 GB and 3600 MHz but it is CL16. Is there any difference, should I just until it is available?

In general it should work (the CL16 stick will then run at CL17), but there's no guarantee. It could also refuse to boot, or be unable to run at 3600 etc.

In theory, the ram will run at the specs of the lesser of the two. In reality, there can be issues. There was just a recent thread created about a person with a similar issue, and if I recall the PC wouldn't even boot.

Edit: Ninja'd.

Check the return policy and give it a try though.
