You'll be fine with using the split cable if you are not planning on overclocking, Jayztwocents noticed running an extra cable helps in stabilizing an overclock.

Personally Id reccomend running the extra cable if you can, because the cards are rated for such high wattages.

But for every day using a split cable is fine just fine.
