Plex AV1 Support

Interesting, considering the obvious gains of AV1 and how much this would smoothen content delivery to endusers for transcoded video on plex, weird that they aren't a fan.

They are fans, just slow to adopt something that very few users will benefit from. I think Plex has money problems considering they give most of their features for free and most people don't pay anything.

Yea they have to think about all the devices they have apps for. The majority of there players would not handle AV1 very well so why support it until all the player hardware can actually play AV1. Let alone play it better then what is currently offered to make the dev time worth it. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see it for another few years.

late reply sorry, but imho having the option soon (maybe by default disabled or something) is better than not having the option at all... 

so I'm +1 for AV1 support... 

as for the money shortage... I doubt it... I'm a paying customer, and I can't be the only one... and I get a lot of ads even on the payed content, so revenue is there I'd say...

Ask and you shall receive, looks like they listened to the community and AV1 is now supported on Plex clients
