With a discount and promo code, I can snag the Samsung Odyssey G9 at ~947USD, I think it's a good deal but ain't 100% sure. I might/might not get it regardless of the poll, though it would at least gimme a general consensus of whether it should or shouldn't be bought. Do bear in mind this is the older model, not the 'Neo'....

For ultrawide gaming I think Alienware QD-OLED is a better option (and worth the 200 buck premium)

 

Also the big part of the reason people go for the G9 is HDR, and the G9 actually aren't that great in that department. The Neo G9 or even Neo G7 would be a much better pick in that department (if the Alienware is not available for any reason)

Nay. The g9 is riddled with issues and there is SO MUCH variance in panel quality that a bunch might as well be different monitors in terms of quality.

 

The older non neo is even worse.

 

The chance of getting a as good as seen in reviews model is low.

I suggest you don't get the none Neo version. It is not very good in many part. 

 

Get the Neo G9 as it is big promotion everywhere as well. Make sure you get the latest badge, don't use the bundle DP cable for 240hz and update to latest firmware. 

 

My Neo G9 is manufacturer in April 2022 and I don't have any issue mentioned by earlier reviewer and so far so good except that lousy bundle DP cable immediately faulty when I switch to 240hz.

 

I on Local Dimming when gaming or watching movie but for productivity usage, I do disable local dimming as I find it is too bright in white background apps. I only switch to local dimming to auto when gaming or watching movie. It is auto on only when you set Windows to SDR. It is always on when set Windows to HDR and you need manually turn off if don't want to use. To me this is correct setting as only this setting streaming apps will playback in HDR when the movie is HDR support.

A few months ago I bought a second hand G9. I use it for my simrig, so I don't care too much of the issues that comes with the monitor but it has insane scanlines in different colors when run at 240Hz, the whole picture can suddently become very dark and blink back and forth between correct image and darkened image, this happens when using Gsync and the refresh rate drops below Gsync range. So basically, Gsync is broken. 

But if you don't care about scanlines and wont use Gsync, well then I guess the monitor is pretty good, just not at ~950USD, that's too much to be honest.

Thanks for the feedback, guys, I didn't think Samsung make such terrible monitors. I have the first 49" 32:9 @ 3840x1080 144Hz, thought of going with the 1440P version. Oh well, guess I'll stick with mine for the time being. Thought the monitor is relatively cheap here in my neck of the woods, I have decided to give it a pass.

What's wrong with the DP cable that comes with it?  I use it and have had no issues.

Mine immediate broken after I switch to 240hz like some reviewer facing, appearing of glitch here and there with green box distortion. After that I try use that cable connect to a normal 144hz 2560x1440 monitor also same thing happen.

 

I nearly though it is monitor issue, lucky it was not as no such issue happen when I use another DP cable I purchased.

I never use any cable that comes with the monitors I'd gotten thru the years, instead, I use VESA certified (whenever possible) DP and HDMI cables from Linkup, Ugreen, ATZ, etc

Normally bundle with monitor is good quality, first time I face got such issue.
