Hi guys!

I'm installing Windows 8.1 on a laptop and i had to format the boot drive because i needed to install a fresh copy. (Btw i'm installing from a USB.)

Now when i want to install Windows i need to select an partition, every partition is GPT and not NFST (or NSFT idk)! So the laptop can't boot now and i can't install Windows!

i tried it with GParted but the laptop doesn't boot if i burn the .iso on the USB!!

Please help, i will be very greatfull!

Thanks!

best bet in my opinion would be reformat the whole drive to ntfs then reinstall

You need to boot from a functioning USB install drive or an install disk. In the advanced setup options you can format your drive(s) before the install actually happens.

Case: Meatbag, humanoid - APU: Human Brain version 1.53 (stock clock) - Storage: 100TB SND (Squishy Neuron Drive) - PSU: a combined 500W of Mitochondrial cells - Optical Drives: 2 Oculi, with corrective lenses.

Its NTFS btw.

And can you formatt it as a windows boot thingy I forgot the same sorry, and as NTFS or Fat32, something that windows knows.  And make sure its bootable, on an ubuntu usb?

It can boot from the USB to the Windows Installation. I go to Advanced and formated the drives but it is still GPT.

Right, well you should be perfectly capable of booting from a GPT drive if your BIOS is configured correctly. I would read this to solve your problem http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn336946.aspx

Stopstopstop..

GTP (gparted) is the file system table type, its how the partitions are stored on the disk! It is not the partition type!

Legacy systems used the MBR file systee table, where as newer systems use GPT

To use EFI you must use GPT

Next you have the filesystem type for a particular partition, this is eg NTFS, FAT32, ext4 (if linux)

These are two distinct separate things. You can have GPT and NTFS at the same time.

Arch Linux on Samsung 840 EVO 120GB: Startup finished in 1.334s (kernel) + 224ms (userspace) = 1.559s | U mad windoze..?

But i get a message that i can't install Windows because it is GPT.

The is an application called Rufus (google it) which is used to create bootable  USB. Use that to create the bootable USB and make sure your bios setting is correct before booting in to USB and you should be able to formatting the whole HDD in NTFS. If you can not boot tell me the model of your laptop

Edit: Forgot to reload the page before posting and a lot of post have passed me.

You need to make sure the installer you have is EFI compatible.

When you get to choosing the partition selection option to install the W8, chose on drive option (or manage drives i do remember the exact name) and delete all partitions don't select them and click on format. Select all the partition one by one and delete them. After that it will show you XXXX GB of un-allocated  space. Click on it and click next without creating any partition(s). That should work. If not make sure your installer is EFI compatible like lutzee said and if not change the setting in the bios or use another ISO
