Windows has been having this problem forever and you would think by now we are on winny 11 that this irritating bug would have been solved by now.  Microsoft go back to school I have to keep rebooting just to detach my externals you idiots.  Anyone have any solutions apart from getting an i mac or switching to ubuntu?

I don't know if Windows 11 has this, but on my buddy' Win 10 box on the terminal there is a carat that when click on, opens a small box that shows a USB icon that will allow you to correctly remove the device from the system, thus allowing you to either remove the device entirely or to simply eject the medium from the device.

Simply replacing the disk after dismounting will automatically remount the drive, usually. (Not guaranteed, but then again nothing that Microsoft has ever done been guaranteed to work properly at any time.)

What is happening is that Windows is still trying to read and/or write from the device. Basically asking "Are You There? Where did you go? I'm still talking to you!" ANSWER ME!"

And your device is staying mute, thus spoiling Windows."

USB device.  You right click the device in question and ask to eject it, even though you have checked task manager and it is not in use windows decides to grow a brain and thinks it still in use and does not give you the ok to disconnect it.  Windows is just a dumb piece of software.

Off the subject, but whenever I run any antivirus program, it still keeps my copy Windows on the computer.

You have to remember that the "geniuses" at Microsoft are the same guys that don't understand that OFF means OFF and NOT standby, I guess that when they turn the key when they get out of their parent's car they think it leaves the motor running.

What is happening is that Windows thinks that sometime in the future you may possibly want to access that device again. So instead of doing what any other OS does, basically cutting access off completely, it leaves a string attached so that it doesn't "get lost".

It does not happen all the time though this is the thing, sometimes it will let you release it and other times it just does not.. no matter how many programs you shut down, they just can not build OS's properly.

I got to thinking, maybe there are no groups of crackers/hackers/virus writers and all the security hype is nonsense.

It's possible that Microsoft itself is doing this by deliberately writing in in the base so as to use it for their own nefarious reasons.

I doubt it  as I remember in one of their older attempts in programming that put in a redundant redundancy (a double loop) in the code because either the "programmers" were unable to write it properly and added the comment "I don't know why this works but it doesn't work without it." or were too lazy to rewrite the code to fix the problem properly.

How to become a Microsoft prorammer

Question A. 1+1 =

Question B. 1+1 =

Answers: If Both A & B = 2, than candidate is overqualified for the position and must be rejected

Answers If A & B are different, hire immediately and fast track him/her to lead programmer, ASAP.

Answers: If either A or B is blank, employ them as Department Head.
