We are very close to next gen graphics cards and CPUs. Only a few months. Also ATX 3.0 PSU are coming which will be a big change. A next gen PSU like Seasonic PS Vertex could last you 5-10 years.

I would also buy a normal number of fans like 3 or 4 max unless you like hearing loss. Drop the liquid cooling and get Noctua fans and CPU cooler. Overclocking is only good for blue screens and short hardware life.

With this kind of budget and build, I'd really wait for the AMD Ryzen 7000 release, which is at the end of September. 12900K is very likely to be dethroned by 7900X. Also the new ATX 3.0 PSUs.

Some of the parts are unnecessarily expensive, such as the case fans and the SSD.

Also, please use pcpartpicker.com to spec the build, it is a free tool.

when would ATX 3.0 PSUs be expected to be coming out? I kind of have been looking at a build that might go into this level of budget, but more so because I'd like to do some stuff with virtualization with VR gaming and programming in two seperate OSes that can be swapped between one another without restarting. Though that does mean I really don't think I'll go with a super fancy GPU and even if I wanted to in the future I can keep the 1070 for a year or two.

Thank you.  I am not exactly sure how that part picker works ? does it all come from amazon?   I also already have the case.

I was doing research and found that this mobo will support the 40 series?   I also had a question about the build itself and then the OS..   the part no one ever shows of building a PC is the OS where does that come from ?

PC Part Picker lists prices from a variety of sources it creates an easy way for people trying to help out to be able to change just one or 2 things and be able to be sure that they aren't doing something crazy. Like if they recommend changing from 3 sets of 1 TB storage to two 2 TB storage they can easily make an edited version.

PC Part Picker does have links on where to buy but I think normally people here like it if you include parts that you already own just for convenience safe.

Next gen GPUs will be compatible I think the argument is more so that given all the talk about next gen GPUs and Intel and AMD's next Gen CPUs it might be best to not go close to the most powerful machine you can when it will be suplanted in a month or two but maybe I'm putting words in Dukesilver's mouth I also have never built a PC myself before.

not sure if you seen my other question about the OS.  once I put this thing together where will the OS come from?  is that something I am supposed to purchase as well ?

Well if you don't already have a license key for win 7/10/11 you can get a OEM copy. I think you can still upgrade a win 7 key to win 11 for free. Even though it is officially over they still let you upgrade.

Obviously you need a different key for each computer.

Brand loyalty is not a good idea, companies will always screw over their consumers if it means they will profit more.

But if you insist, then that is up to you.

RTX 4000/RX 7000 series might release this year, but no concrete leak yet. Most likely they will release top end first, which would be the 4090 and 7900.

As long as the board supports PCIE Gen 4 or Gen 5, it should be okay. Any B660M/Z690M board would be fine.

The OS would need to be installed by yourself, you could just buy the key and get the installer yourself, or buy boot CDs, but you'd need additional pc part for that.

Here's the guide.

  • 3 weeks later...

@madmax4000

@Ultraforce

@Dukesilver27-

@AnthonyMediaHD

I would like to say thank you for all the feedback and info & even your opinions.  I appreciate it.

So I decided to take the leap and just go with what I chose from the start,  Waiting on a 40 series and attempting to get one is not something I am looking to do. so... here we are..  RAM is still in transit and very little cable management left.   over all looks great to me!  cant wait to post and get some numbers!
