Power line Question

Hello 

 

The wireless coverage in my home is rather horrible and I was looking into purchasing a powerline wireless range extender. Does anyone have experience using similar devices? 

 

My primary question is about the wireless range of each unit. Will one be  enough to provide coverage to the entire floor, or do they only realistically work on  a room by room basis?

I thought powerline was a wireless replacement not wireless itself? My understanding was you plugged 2 boxes into the wall 1 to your router/internet and 1 to your pc then the internet signal went from one box thru the power line to the other box? Could be wrong I havent looked into it my self but that was the impresion I got from it.

You are correct, you use powerline to replace wireless. OP is confusing with something else. Basically, you have a cable from your router to the powerline, then the signal goes through your home wiring, it gets out at another powerline in anothe room/floor, and you run a cable from it to your device.

I'm no networking expert so I might have used incorrect terms, but that's roughly how it works from what I understand.

I use the Belkin Powerline in 3 rooms in my townhouse and it works great. Linus has covered this subject if you want to do a search and it came in 2nd to actually having ethernet cables running through the house.Its a perfect solution for people renting.

Not confused, when I said wireless coverage I literally just meant that my wireless router is not able to provided wireless to every part of the house. Sorry if I used confusing terminology.
