upgrade psu help ??

i have a r7  1700. asus 1050

im using a kl-c400 psu at the moment im chaning it to a rm550x 

 

will everything be fine ?

Should be great, looks like you're going to a higher quality PSU as well so power delivery should be more stable

just for curiosity and to gain knowledge 

 

even a 800 watt psu would've worked as long as its above what the system needs right ??

 

but it would be stupid to get on as it will just cost you more ???

A lower wattage quality PSU will always be better than a high wattage dangerous PSU. 

Wattage above what is needed is a good way of offsetting future costs when upgrades come along, and it's best practice to budget 20% above what your system can draw at max.

now im saying like a corsair 550x and a rm850x it would be fine to get both but considering price it would be wiser to get the cheaper one if you system only needs around 400 lets say ? ?

If you are actively pulling 400w, I'd say a 650 would be a good choice, able to handle momentary spikes, with a 1700 and 1050, you'll be more than fine with a 550w.
