Need help for phone repurpose and custom rom

Helo, so i got this old HTC 1 E9s (a50aml)  laying around for a while.  So i am thinking of repurposing it. 
for now i thought of android auto but also i need a smart table cloc. So is there any alexa or google assistant like apps using which i can make it a smart display or smart clock. amazon alexa need android 8+ and
its a android 5.0.2 : (.
Some people also told me about doing custom ROM , but i dont have any idea on that. Any guides/tutorials for that are welcome too.
also if there is any other suggestions for repurposing the phone they are welcome

MEdiatek MT6752 @1.5Ghz
Display : Oled or Amoled 1280x720p
ram : LpDDR3 @800mhz 
Storage : 16gb internal storge
Battery: battery health kinda crap so i might use it mostly in charging mode
