AMD GPU core clock throttling issue

Hey all,

 

I've been having some issues with my AMD 7950.  I have it overclocked to 1080 mhz core and 1500 mhz mem, and lately whenever I start up a game or benchmarking tool right after I boot up my system I've been noticing that the core clock with throttle.  In order to fix this, I have to go into catalyst control centre, reset AMD overdrive, and put my settings back in, but the problem will reoccur once I restart my PC.  I'm sure it can't be an issue of an unstable overclock because I selected my values after testing for gpu artificacts and system crashes.  And, I have checked to make sure my power limit is maxed out.  

 

Any help would be much appreciated.

Is it overheating ?

No, when functioning normally, the hottest I've ever seen it go is 70 degrees C while playing Crysis 3

You have a Gigabyte 7950, is it voltage locked ?

It is, but that has never been an issue before.  Out of the box, the voltage is locked at 1.25 V I believe.  I've actually tried just running at stock speeds and the core clock still throttles even below that.

Honestly, i had so much trouble with amd overdrive, just use afterburner instead.

Same problem with afterburner as well.  In fact, that's how I noticed the throttling issue.
