Best budget VR headset

Hi, was wondering what would be the best budget VR headset for my PC config below? 

 

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 (gonna upgrade to 5600 soon)

Ram: 16GB

Graphics c: RTX 3070 

 

Also, why are VR headsets so expensive?! Like they all sit roughly around $1200 to $2000 mark where I live...how is that affordable for an average consumer like me? lol

Quest 2 or used 1st gen Vive. The Quest is the better of the two, though the Vive does have the advantage of being more modular (you can upgrade the controllers to the superior Index controllers and make it wireless without having to replace everything), usually a bit cheaper used (this can be hit or miss though), and not needing a Microsoft account. 

 

For basically everything else though, get a Quest 2, it is the only VR headset in production today that makes sense to buy for less than $1000, mostly because it's heavily subsidized by Facebook Meta to completely undercut the rest of the market. Get it and the link cable (there is a way to get it to work wireless, though it's been a while since I've looked into it and it was a bit hit or miss last I did) and you should be good to go.
