Currently I have the following.

Gigabyte Arous Z390 motherboard

Intel i7 9700k at 5.0 ghz

Corsair Vengeance DDR4 32GB

Zotac RTX 2080.

EVGA super nova 750w gold

Play at 144p on a odyssey G7.

Was thinking of finally upgrading my GPU now that prices are low to a 3080 ti or possibly waiting for the 4080. If I wait for the 4080.  Do you think my CPU would fine paired with it, Or should I just plan a new build altogether?

Do you have a need to upgrade to a new gpu?

You can likely get some extra performance by just ocing that 2080 since its literally impossible to kill a gpu with overclock (assuming you dont have voltage control which most new gpus dont, youd need vmod or an evc2 for that)

If you dont have a need to upgrade gpu just wait for the 4000 gpus and oc your stuff in the meantime

You would be CPU bottlenecked even with a 3080, let alone the 50-80% faster (rumors are all over the place) 4080 that will come out. If you actually want to take full advantage of the new card, you should be getting a whole new build.

That's not to say your current CPU is bad or anything, it's a fine chip, it's just that if you're not gonna get that much benefit over a 3070 with a 3080 at only 1440P (if this were 4K it might be a different story, but not that much different). If you want an upgrade, save up for a whole new system.
