I can't decide between getting a new i3 12100f 12mb L3 cache or (for the same price) a used Ryzen 7 3700x 32mb L3 cache. The i3 has 4c/8t while the Ryzen 7 has 8c/16t yet the i3 seems to pull ahead in most benchmark tests iv seem, although not by a lot but I am now indecisive about which direction I should go.

I'd like to run more intensive games such as rust on my build.

If you're just gaming, the i3 all the way. Single core performance is what actually matters, and the i3 is a lot faster in single core workloads. If you're doing more video editing or other stuff at the same time, get the Ryzen chip. The cores may be ~20% slower, but you've also got double them so it's overall performance in things that can use all the cores is up a fair bit.
